DNC vs RNC? Why are there always more attendees at the DNC?

I'm just curious as to why more people typically attend the Democratic National Convention vs. the Republican convention. I'm looking for the FACTS not smart comments about how one candidate is better than the other. John Kerry had a huge convention audience compared to the Republicans but lost the election. Does anyone have real facts about this?
