My cat is gone...possibly dead?

I havent seen my cat since last night and since this morning I've been looking for him. Usually I let him sleep outside in his bed on the porch because he loves the porch . and after watching him sleep I go back in the house. My mother said she seen him crossing the street getting ready to come into the house but she blocked his way and told him to "go away"...She always does that and always put him outside because she no longer likes him...but we had him for 12 years since he was kitten and i dont understand how can you suddenly hate someone...I've been looking for him every where and there are no traces of him and I fear he is dead or maybe stuck somewhere and i cant hear him....its raining out and I know he has to have some shelter in a dry warm place somewhere...im posting filers up tomorrow in hopes of finding him...i just dont want to think the worse...
